Mental Health Initiative of CMAI

An interactive and practical case study oriented 6 days contact class was held at Vellore, Tamil Nadu. 26 participants from 14 member institutions of CMAI, representing 11 States, participated in the course. Action plan to take forward the initiative in their respective institutions has been prepared by each participant. 5 CMAI staff who have also been trained will follow up and guide the institutions in implementing the action plan along with Department of Community Health of CMAI.

CMAI intends to develop a multiprofessional team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapist, occupational therapists, counsellors, faith leaders/chaplains and community workers in 5 different hospitals from different regions of CMAI. The team will be trained to provide a comprehensive mental healthcare for staff, patients and the community.

The expected outcome is that the centres: a. Outline a relevant comprehensive action plan to address the mental health service gap in the community they serve. b. Implement the action plan over a period of 6 months and document the outcomes.
