Multiple Positions - Van Allen Hospital

Van Allen Hospital was established in 1913 by a group of Christian missionaries as a place where people could receive quality medical attention in a picturesque setting of comfort and care. Located in Kodaikanal, Tamilnadu, at an altitude of about 7000 ft in the Western Ghats, we are nearly 100 kms away from the nearest available tertiary referral centre. Building upon our 100-year foundation, we continue, in the spirit of Christian service to provide the best in medical services to all who walk through our doors. We currently offer acute medical care, mother and childcare and orthopaedic and fracture care. A vacancy has arisen to commence ASAP to provide obstetric and general medical care. While this is a long term vacancy, candidates who are interested in short term positions can also apply. Salary will be decided upon qualification and experience. Free accommodation will be provided. Kodaikanal International School offers a considerable scholarship for children of doctors working at the Van Allen.

Footsteps 113 (English)

Mental health and well-being

Mental health is just as important as physical health. The two are closely connected and should be considered together. However, too often mental health conditions are not openly discussed leading to lack of understanding, judgemental attitudes, stigma and discrimination.

This edition of Footsteps provides practical ideas for how we can break down stigma and discrimination and offer support and understanding instead. Resilience (the ability to cope with and recover from difficult situations) and the importance of talking about our feelings are key themes throughout the edition.

Communicable diseases

We all become unwell from time to time, sometimes from illnesses that are passed on from person to person. These are called ‘communicable’ diseases and include common coughs and colds as well as more serious illnesses such as Covid-19, HIV, malaria and Ebola.

In this edition of Footsteps we discuss how to reduce the spread and impact of communicable diseases, including the impact on children, mental health and people living with disabilities. We consider how to support people who are unwell and learn lessons from Ebola and HIV.

We are proud to inform that The Leprosy Mission, Philadelphia Hospital, Salur in Andhra Pradesh received appreciation from Smt. Pushpa Srivani, Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for exemplary service to the community during Covid-19 second wave.

Mr. Surjit Pal, Administrator of the hospital received an appreciation certificate on 15th August 2021 at a public function. Smt. A SuryaKumari, from Vizianagaram District Administration was also present.
