About CMAI
History
Started in 1905, as the medical missionary association with the aim of providing through christian medical professionals a forum for sharing and supporting each other spiritually and professionally. The organisation was renamed Christian Medical Association of India in 1926.
CMAI’s programs and activities are focused on the challenges and issues relevant to the times. We work through the church, CMAI's network of members and the government.
CMAI's membership is divided into 5 Sections (Doctors, Nurses League, Administrators, Allied Health Professionals & Chaplains) for focussed and strategic growth.
CMAI as an Organisation
- A membership association of Hospitals and Healthcare Professionals. Identity is Christian. All activities implemented are for the health and well-being of the community.
- Operate through membership and provide technical expertise in health and development to the Church.
- Education is legacy at CMAI. Instrumental in training both young men and women in nursing by boards recognised by an Act of Parliament. Pioneers in Allied Health training, awaiting recognition as per the new Allied Health Professions Bill.
- The capacity of the healthcare professionals team serving in the hospitals and other areas like Government and for profit sector is built in understanding wholistic healthcare via informed workshops, conferences and need-based meetings.
- Network with the Goverment and act as a support in providing accessible and affordable healthcare to different communities, especially to the marginalised and vulnerable.
- Engage on policy with the Governemt and other partners in healthcare. This is an important aspect of CMAI as a national presence to ensure that the grassroot voice is heard and there is equity of healthcare.
The Christian Medical Association of India is Registered Under Societies Regn. Act of 1860 Reg. No. 17 of 1938-39 and Bombay Public Trust No. F:549 (N).
