Historical fact & Stand out achievement - Burrow Memorial Christian Hospital is a charitable hospital with a great zeal to work for poor and marginalize people in the society. It was established in the year 1935 by Christian doctor Burrow.
This hospital comes under the unit of Emmanuel hospital association. New Delhi. They are under scheme like PMJSY/JSY/CEA & Ayushman Bharat.
Strategically situated, Burrows Memorial Christian Hospital is one of the oldest in the Cachar district of Assam and adjoining Tripura, Manipur and Barak Valley area. It started as a hospital treating Tuberculosis and leprosy patients and was the only hospital in the area, but the vagaries of time and people took their toll on the hospital.
The Govt. of India has also declared the hospital’s School of Nursing as a Minority Educational Institution covered under section 2(g) of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions Act, 2004 and with the Govt. of Assam under Public Private partnership (PPP) a Mother & Child Healthcare Program is carried out. A Community Lay-Leaders Health Training Certificate Course (CLHTC) program is also run, in partnership with CMC Vellore to train community lay-leaders in basic primary healthcare so that workers serving in rural India will be able to extend holistic care to their own families and the communities they serve.
Currently, the hospital has General Surgery, an OBG Department, General medicine, a Dental department, Urology, etc. Apart from this the hospital provides Home Based Palliative Care under the guidance of Palliative Project, EHA and organizes periodic Community Health Camps & Outreach with their team of 107 staff which includes 6 doctors and 30 nurses.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, although the hospital was not a designated Covid hospital; but with the direction of the District Health Authority, it admitted Staff and their family members in the designated Covid Ward. All of them have since recovered.
In preparation for the third wave of Covid 19, under the instruction of the district authorities, the hospital has 10 beds to treat mild and moderately ill patients following strict Covid-19 protocols. Serious cases are sent to Silchar Medical College Hospital as that has been designated for treating severe cases.
There is a need for a digital X-ray machine, upgradation of the existing OT room and a fully equipped second OT room to deal with covid as well as general/OBG surgeries.
