Step by step

Baer Christian hospital is a 200 bedded hospital with a skeletal team of doctors and 8 nurses, but their trust and compassion in reaching out to sufferance of people during the pandemic from July 2020 to May 2021 was a beginning or renewed hope of being better prepared for future.

The hospital assigned 50 beds for covid-19 patients even though they were not designated as a covid facility by the state government. Most patients who came were of category C and did not want to go to far off government hospital. As more and more patients with mild symptoms came, the hospital functioned as a Quarantine centre. In the initial stage 120 persons were quarantined.

Simultaneously, patients whose condition became severe, were treated in the hospital. Struggling with only one oxygen concentrator, staff working 24x7, more than 300 patients were treated. In order to be better prepared for the next step, the hospital  plans to increase the number of oxygenated ICU beds to 10 beds equipped with bedside monitors. It has received a small oxygen plant which generates 50 litres of oxygen per minute, but to equip the ICU beds  with the supply, they need to undertake oxygen piping costing 45000. The help with 5 oxygen concentrators and PPE kits in stock will strengthen their capacity for the next step.
