CMAI under a five-year Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), India, focuses on improving the quality of government supported Blood Banks across India. Under the Project Quality Management Systems –Blood Banks (QMS-BB) CMAI works closely with the Division of Blood Transfusion Services (BTS) of the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in rolling-out multiple strategies for strengthening quality.

CMAI works with the Lab Services Division of NACO in improving quality of services in selected district laboratories (Labs for Life Project) in seven states under the Cooperative Agreement with CDC.

The CMAI CDC- Labs for Life (L4L) partnership project of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India and CDC for improving quality of laboratory services, building sustainable laboratory systems, and strengthening institutions within the public health sector

The project supports activities to improve quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of laboratory systems under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW).

Labs for Life Project
No. of vacancies: 2 (Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra)
The purpose of the position: State Cluster Coordinator

The basic purpose of the position will be to support the cluster level activities of Labs for Life Project in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra cluster districts.

Cluster districts
Andhra Pradesh – East Godavari, Guntur, and Krishna
Maharashtra – Pune, Mumbai and Thane

The key functions of this position are:

  1. Facilitate and support situation and gap analysis in selected facilities
  2. Provide Project management support, facilitate joint consultations, working group meetings with the stakeholders at the regional, state and district level.
  3. Plan and facilitate implementation of quality improvement system activities at sites.
  4. Provide in-service training in diagnosis of opportunistic infections
  5. Addressing Infrastructure Gaps through sensitization, Advocacy, and resources
  6. Coordinate site visits of external quality auditors as required by the project
  7. Analyze data received from the state laboratories for NACO and prepare reports as required.
  8. Develop linkages between ART, ICTC and other labs
  9. Work with CMAI, BD, CDC and NACO to implement national guidelines on quality improvement.
  10. Visit extensively within the region / districts for coordinating stakeholders for integrated response for quality improvement.
  11. Any other tasks assigned by the DDG (Lab Services) NACO through the Technical Manager (L4L) at NACO.
  12. Any other tasks assigned by CMAI


  • Post Graduate degree in Pathology/Biochemistry /Microbiology
  • MSc/BSc MLT with five years of experience
  • Familiarity with the international standards, ISO 15189 will be an advantage;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, analytical and interpersonal abilities, excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in managing computers with high level of familiarity with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment;
  • Preference would be given to the candidate having experience of working with Centre / State / UT health department as a trainer in Quality Management System
  • Conditions of formal educational qualification and experience will be relaxed for exceptional candidates.

The candidate will report to the Technical Manager (L4L) at NACO. A joint review will be held once every quarter at NACO on the performance of the candidate.
